Some comedians walk to the mic with nothing. I wanted to know what that felt like. So tonight, I tried it.
Life tosses so many interesting and funny things my way, I thought I would try it out off the cuff and see what lands. After all, I am not sure what kind of comedian I am — I am trying on all the red noses.
At One Star I talked about Scott and I needing a new mattress. We have a king, we are thinking about maybe going back to a queen.
My husband sleeps 13" from the side of the bed. I know because I measured it with a yardstick while he was sleeping. A queen bed is 18" narrower than a king. Do the math — he feels romantic, he can knock me off the bed. We have a twin, a queen and a king in the house. So we've been sleeping around — like Goldilocks, if Goldilocks had a yardstick and trust issues.
The night I slept in the queen, it was against the wall and in the middle of the night I woke up feeling like a hostage. I executed a sloppy but effective escape and slipped out and headed home to the king. However, then I had abandonment issues and felt alone in there and had to make a wall of pillows.
The material got a couple laughs and so there is something there. The journey is just beginning — we have time to work it out as we go through the mattress monarchy. At 5 O'Clock I talked about my 40 year high school reunion and being old.
I like mail. My bills are online so it is mostly junk, ads and invites. I got an invite to my 40th high school reunion. I am going to need to soak in moisturizer until June to get rid of these wrinkles and fine lines.
I went to an all boys high school, lettered in dating. So I have to look good going back.
While I am going through this material, Rich Greene is doing what he does, taking photos to help promote. Time for some crowd play.
I bend down — Rich, honey, step stool, ladder, drone — I don't care. I've earned better angles. I am way too old to have a picture taken from that angle.
I mean, props to Rich for promoting and really working it, but I have seen pictures of me shot from that angle and it's rough.
The material did ok. I like the reunion angle and I am taking it back to work on. There is something there and I am going to flesh it out for a 5 minute routine. Three years at an all-boys school that went co-ed, first class of girls — forty years later, that's not a reunion. That's a five-minute set waiting to happen.
